Online Assignment #4

Dear Students,
In our previous session, we reviewed the high front vowels and became familiar with the rest of the front vowels.  Here are some useful videos for you to watch and practice.
1. The /e/ sound  (as we have discussed for some phoneticians they categorized this sound as a diphthong, Rachel in her youtube channel also sees it as a diphthong.)

2. The [ɛ] vowel sound:

3. The /æ/ vowel sound:

In the comment section below, answer the following questions:
  After pronouncing these videos,
1. Which of the previous vowel sound do you consider more similar to Spanish and why?
 2. Which one do you consider different and why?

2 comments:

  1. The vowel /e/ in Spanish and English are similar but not the same. The main difference is that in English the /e/ is produced with the mouth a bit more open and the lips a bit more spread, which gives it a different quality.
And the vowel different is /æ/ because In Spanish doesn't have words that can be pronunce with this Vowel.

  2. I my opinion the pronunciation resembels spanish we spoke the vowel (a) but thereis a difference we refer to the fact that vowel (æ) when the pronunced is emited it is central sound to be said a mestigious sound, betwen the vowel (a) and (e) then the sound of the one emits a single sound is just from the vowel (a)_ I consider different the vowel sound of (3) to the pronunciation of (e) because when we pronunced in english the language is at rest at the mouth it's opens ins front on the other pronunced with the waxed mouth.
